The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services has reopened its Quality Reporting Communication Support Page, which allows eligible professionals and CMS-selected group practices to request an exemption from the 2013 Electronic Prescribing (eRx) payment adjustment. Providers have until June 30 of this year to request an exemption. CMS has a user manual that can help providers through this process.
Providers can request an exemption if they fall into one of the four categories below:
- Have an inability to electronically prescribe due to local, state, or federal law or regulation.
- Will prescribe fewer than 100 prescriptions in the Jan. 1 through June 30, 2012, reporting period.
- Practice in a rural area without sufficient high speed internet access.
- Practice in an area without sufficient available pharmacies for electronic prescribing.
Questions about the e-Rx incentive program can be directed to the CMS QualityNet Help Desk or to ehr@asco.org.
