The Office of Management and Budget has released its report outlining how it will implement the cuts due to sequestration. These cuts, which will become effective in 2013 unless Congress acts, are mandated by the Budget Control Act of 2011 and include cuts to both Medicare and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The cuts from sequestration, to Medicare, the NIH, and many other programs, will have far reaching effects. ASCO will be working throughout the fall to raise awareness of the consequences of these cuts and ask for action. However, Members of Congress need to hear from you about what cuts of this size mean for your community and the importance of preventing them from taking effect. Visit ASCO’s ACT Network to send a message to your legislators encouraging them to take action to address sequestration. You can also learn about other opportunities to take action on the ACT Network.
