The Alliance for Childhood Cancer, a coalition of 26 patient advocate and professional groups, including ASCO, is calling on Congress to stop sequestration cuts to non-defense discretionary spending because of their impact on children with cancer.

Given the high percentage of children who participate in NCI-funded clinical trials, the pace of progress could be greatly slowed, stifling the medical discoveries that help save children’s lives. The Alliance estimates that sequestration would impose a $450 million reduction in research funding at the NCI that has the potential to stop ongoing life-saving research.
