ASCO, a member of the Coalition to Transform Advanced Care (C-TAC), is co-sponsoring the Coalition’s National Summit on Advanced Illness Care. The Summit brings together medical providers, policy makers, caregivers, insurers, advocates and faith leaders to address issues facing those with advanced illness, including cancer.

Oncologists have an important role to play in helping to shape the way advanced illness care is delivered. ASCO Member Tom Smith, MD, Director of Palliative Care for Johns Hopkins Medicine and the Hopkins’ Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center, will moderate a panel focused on identifying and replicating best advanced illness care practices in clinical and community settings. Other panel discussions will address public policy and cultural barriers, caregiver perspectives and provider engagement.

C-TAC, an alliance of patient and consumer advocacy groups, health care professionals and providers, private sector stakeholders, faith-based organizations, and health care, is working to transform advanced illness care in the United State. C-TAC believes every American with advanced illness should receive comprehensive, high-quality, patient-centered care that aligns with care goals and values.
