ASCO’s incoming Clinical Practice Committee Chair Anupama Kurup, MD, spent March 5 on Capitol Hill visiting her Oregon (OR) lawmakers to discuss ASCO’s top federal legislative priorities.

In meetings with the offices of Senators Wyden (D-OR) and Merkley (D-OR) and Representatives Blumenauer (D-OR) and Bonamici (D-OR), Dr. Kurup discussed ASCO’s concerns with the triple threat of sequestration on cancer research at the National Institutes of Health, drug review at the Food and Drug Administration, and Medicare physician payments as well as the flawed sustainable growth rate (SGR) formula for Medicare physician payments. Dr. Kurup also attended a roundtable discussion with Rep. Blumenauer in January in OR.
