In a letter responding to the Committee’s request, ASCO underscores the need for a more rational, functional, and sustainable system of payment that incentivizes quality patient care.

Reps. Allyson Schwartz (D-Pa.) and Jo Heck (R-Nev.) introduced legislation in the House that would permanently repeal Medicare’s Sustainable Growth Rate formula and replace it with a new system of payment models. The Medicare Physician Payment Innovation Act also provides immediate relief from cuts of over 30 percent to physician reimbursements, scheduled to take place January 1, 2013.
